How to Make It?

Ingredients You'll Need For The Crust:

  1. 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 
  2. 1 teaspoon salt 
  3. 2 sticks (1 cup) of cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces 
  4. 4-8 tablespoons ice water 

Ingredients You'll Need For The Filling 

  1. 3/4 cup granulated sugar  
  2. 3 tablespoons cornstarch  
  3. Pinch of salt  
  4. 2 large eggs  
  5. 2 cups whole milk  
  6. 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  7. 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract   
  8. 1/2 cup heavy cream

Step 1

Directions For The Crust

In a medium bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add in the ice water one tablespoon at a time while stirring with a fork until the dough comes together.

Step 4

Gather dough into two balls and flatten each one into a disk before wrapping it in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 45 minutes or until chilled through.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).

Roll out one disk of dough on a lightly floured surface until it's about 12 inches in diameter and transfer it to a 9-inch pie plate or tart pan. Trim edges and crimp as desired.

Prick the bottom of the crust several times with a fork then chill for 15 minutes before baking for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Set aside to cool completely before adding the filling.

Or else, if you want the easier way out, you can use our vanilla cake premix and follow the same procedure.

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together sugar, cornstarch, salt, and eggs until smooth.

Slowly add in milk while whisking constantly until well combined.

Cook over medium heat while stirring constantly with a wooden spoon until thickened.

Now remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla extract until incorporated.

Step 15

Pour filling into the cooled crust

Now cover with a plastic wrap directly touching the top of the filling so it doesn't form a skin while chilling in the refrigerator for 3 hours or overnight.

Step 17

Once chilled, spread heavy cream over the top of the pie.

Step 18

Decorate as desired with additional heavy whipped cream, white fondant or if you wish to add in a little chocolaty flavor, pour over some ganache if desired before serving immediately! Enjoy!
